'However, I am disturbed by your reference between “Jews” of WWII and ” Muslim Extremists”. Jewish people didn’t kill innocent civilians in markets with bombs they had planted in cars.

During the 1930's and upto 1948, there were various Jewish terrorists, attacking British soldiers and Arab civilians in Palestine. The largest single loss of Britiain military personnel(32+) was in the bombing of the King David hotel in Jerusalem, this was done by Jewish terrorist groups.

The USA is using exactly the same torture techniques as used by Israel. The USA is built on the premise of violence to attain anything. TheUSA is built on the rape and murder of the Native Americans(documented). All agreements made between US goverments and Native Americans, were never honoured by US governments. Even now the US breaks international law to suit itself.
Majority of Americans believe the tripe that comes out of various news agencies. It was recently reported that 40% of Fox news viewers think that Saddam hussein actually had Nuclear weapons, how pathetic is that.

@ Gia - "I also disagree with the Nazi correlation that was made. Unlike Nazi Germany, Americans have not taken up arms to commit genocide, and regular citizens have not held pogroms against their neighbors of “inferior” race. Certainly, modern colonialization is not ethical (in my opionion), but it is not the same as what Nazi Germany set out to accomplish."

In the light of reality, I have to disagree with your argument. Americans have indeed taken up weapons to commit genocides, with a barbarism and brutality that would have disgusted all but the most hardened of Nazis. The mass massacre of civilians using Agent Orange in Vietnam (1960s), Napalming of millions in Cambodia (1960s) and killing children by blocking medical supplies in Iraq (1990s) are only a few of the countless examples. Regular American citizens have indeed engaged in 'pogroms' against other races, especially against the blacks as recently as the late 1970s, in the form of lynching by crazed mobs. The majority of Americans have a mentality today that isn't very different from the Germans of the Nazi era. A widespread extreme nationalism, a firm faith in Americanised 'history' and media propaganda, a belief that Americans are somehow superior to people of other nationalities, a belief that American atrocities are (somehow) for a good cause and a firm belief that the American way is the only way of life worth living. In fact, Germans during the Nazi era had a minimum standard of ethics and dignity that is woefully lacking among the majority of Americans of today. The exceptions to this rule among Americans are as common as the good and dignified among Nazi Germans.

Nice post Mike. I agree that most civilian Americans I associate with know very little about the American government atrocities. And, of course, the media here dowplayed many of these atrocities, blaming actions on individual people rather than overall government policy.

Of those who do realize the extent of the atrocities, most are disgusted. But, unfortunately, even those of us who know about and disagree with the actions of our government can do nothing to stop our leaders while they are in office. The recent election certainly shows that many Americans are looking forward to changing our policies in the world.

I also disagree with the Nazi correlation that was made. Unlike Nazi Germany, Americans have not taken up arms to commit genocide, and regular citizens have not held pogroms against their neighbors of "inferior" race. Certainly, modern colonialization is not ethical (in my opionion), but it is not the same as what Nazi Germany set out to accomplish.

So let's just hope our foreign policy here will change with the new administration.

Firstly, although we may have different views, I do think this blog is a great public service and can truly bring about great discussion. It really makes me think twice about my own views. However, I am disturbed by your reference between "Jews" of WWII and " Muslim Extremists". Jewish people didn't kill innocent civilians in markets with bombs they had planted in cars. Jewish people didn't kill in the name of god. Infact, Jewish people rarely killed even their aggresors. Although I will be the first to agree with you that the American government has committed horrible war crimes and paid little to no price, reffering to America as a "Nazi Regeim is horrible". I know you wan't to evoke anger, but I am not angry, I just think that it is sick to compare anyone of any race, belief or ideology to Hitler.
"Americans often justify the torture of foreign prisoners as deserving of terrorists and rebels"- Which Americans are you reffering to? The elites? The general population? The average citizen? The soldiers? While some may, I certainly don't know any personally that do. Where are you coming up with this information? If its the American media or CNN or any other public media, then I would say you have been fooled.
"Somewhere under the earth, Adolf Hitler is laughing from his grave - proud that Americans have picked up where he left and carried his legacy forward…" I think I understand what your saying, and yes, Americas atrocities are horrible, but how does the American government compare to Hitler? Hitler and the Nazis were committing genocide. America is a multi-ethnic populous composed of people from around the world of all races, religions and viewpoints. Unless you are only referring to how both America and Germany wanted world domination, then I guess I could agree : ). But really, are any other countries governments any better if they know about these crimes and continue to "overlook" them? Something really should be done. I would also say that Americans know little about these horrible things the government has done becuase of media censorship to a degree.
